James got promoted on Friday January 2nd. Sort of promoted, it didn't come with a raise. He was asked to change positions from inventory & suspends to receiving. He now has the title "Dock Manager", but the only employee he manages is himself. He also has to ensure that the bay doors are closed and locked when not in use. He helps unload the deliveries, ensures the accuracy of the paperwork, and keeps the dock organized & tidy. At the end of the day he creates a report on which deliveries were made and how many packages or pallets arrived.
Then on Friday January 23rd, James' manager, Bob, called him in to tell him that he was going to go part-time starting in February. Due to the slowdown of the economy, Backcountry has laid-off most of the seasonal employees and are cutting hours back for almost everyone else - including James. But the encouraging thing is that Bob really fought to keep James, he was asked to release James, but they'd just put him into this new receiving position and needed him to continue there. So James still has a job! Hooray! Bob also said he'd love to see James "stick it out" and they'd increase his hours as they're able. So, we're on the job hunt for something part-time to supplement his Backcountry hours or something full-time to replace Backcountry. Which would be sad, James has enjoyed working there and checking out skis and gear. Hopefully we'll have better news soon!
Crazy thing - James was so busy yesterday (still in full-time until next week) that he wasn't able to take a lunch break!
Today, Bob told James that "You're full-time until I say otherwise." So for now, James is still full-time (HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY) with the potential for that to change on any given day. Bob said that he really wanted to keep James on with Backcountry and James said he wants to stick around. I'm sure this story is To Be Continued...
