One of the things I love about living in northern Utah is the really accessable hiking. We had to drive 30 minutes to get to the Adams Canyon trailhead in Layton & I only took us on two detours through neighborhoods on the side of the mountains before we found it. Super close! It was a perfect day for hiking - partly-cloudy. The first part of this hike is out in the open and was super hot, but then you get into the scrub oak along the stream in the canyon and it is beautiful and sound of the water is soothing.
I'm glad James is willing to go hiking with me, especially when I get all red-faced and sweaty and need to slow down & breathe:

He doesn't mind hiking slow with me or hiking ahead to get some good exercise of his own. When I caught back up, he was 'cooling-down' in the cascades.
We met a new friend at the falls. She would bring the stick within about 3 feet and then use her head to fling the stick in your direction while dancing back in the direction she wanted you to throw the stick. When we were ready to go, she followed us down the trail with her stick for a couple hundred yards until her owner caught up enough to call her back.

On our hike back down, James began collecting plastic water bottles. He's done this on most of our hikes this summer. Today he collected almost a dozen plastic bottles - most had probably been dropped and skittered down the steep slope to the creek. Since most were part-full, he'd empty the bottle and bring it to me to stow-away in his pack. Thanks James!

(PS Kim D - We miss hiking w/you and your kids! I don't think we ever hiked to this waterfall & now McK & Carter would be big enough to hike it themselves - at least most of the way!)
