Adventures with Lincoln - October 2 - 16, 2011

We are so, so grateful that the McCalvys could come for a long visit!  It was wonderful to spend time with them and really enjoyed watching them interact with Lincoln.  Of course, we went adventuring!

October 3, 2011 - Alpine Loop - We drove the scenic Alpine Loop around Mt. Timpanogos to see the fall colors.  The temperature was perfect and there was even some hiking to be done.

October 05, 2011 - Life Flight - I had to drop into work to fax my insurance company.  They needed proof that I did indeed have a baby and wasn't just making up a dependant and adding him to my insurance.  While we were there, we took a quick tour of the Operations Center.

October 6, 2011 - The most important item on Kathleen's premission To Do List is getting her own endowment.  The Anchorage Temple was closed for cleaning, so she got to choose one in Utah.  And on October 6th, James, Sharon and Dick went to the Bountiful Temple with her.  Lincoln and I met up with them afterwards.  We had BEAUTIFUL weather up until that day.  Now we had rain/slush and low clouds and it was cold.  Bundled Lincoln up, but forgot a hat and sometimes a hood is just not enough!  Congratulations Kathleen.  We're so proud of you!  We're excited to exchange letters (emails?) with Hermana McCalvy - good luck in the Tennessee, Nashville Spanish Speaking mission.  We love you!

Family photo by the temple doors.  I like this photo with the visible rain/slush streaks and a cold, crying baby.  Sorry Lincoln!  James and the baby retreated to the car right after this picture was taken.

October 7, 2011 - Family History Library.  On one of our adventures in the downtown Salt Lake City area, we stopped in at the Family History Library.  I got a sticker!

October 10, 2011 - Hiking Ensign Peak.  At least Grandma and Grandpa McCalvy made it to the peak.  Lincoln and I made it about 1/3 of the way up, twice.  With a break in the middle for a snack.  Lucky baby.

October 11, 2011 - Jordan River Parkway - we took about a four mile walk along the Jordan River Parkway.  The weather has been fantastic for outdoor adventuring!

October 12, 2011 - Kennecott Copper Mine - This is a fun field trip.  Love to see the huge machinery in action!

October 13, 2011 - Road Trip!  Utah Scenic Mirror Lake Highway to Evanston, Wyoming.  We LOVE having James on Fall Break.  Having all day to play is wonderful.  Our only deadline on this adventure was being home in time to pick up my parents from the airport.

This is the view (from the front) of the back seat.  We love, love, love, the little mirror.  Lincoln is a very quiet baby most of the time - especially when he is sleeping and he sleeps a lot in the car.  Such a good baby!

Provo River Falls - one of our favorite stops along the Mirror Lake Highway.  Love to explore along the banks of the falls.

Fish trapped in the shallow pools near the falls.

Family photo!

Chinese Pagoda in old downtown Evanston, WY

Genuine London Phone Booth imported from England and installed in a park in old downtown Evanston, WY.  James and I 'checked out the inscription' inside the booth.

And then encouraged Grandma and Grandpa McCalvy to check it out also!

Old downtown Evanston - there is a small road marker and informational plaques about the Lincoln Highway between New York and San Francisco.  Naturally, we needed pictures!

October 14, 2011 - Park City - We had all day (James is on Fall Break!), so we spent time at the outlet shopping mall, drove briefly to the Utah Olympic Park, wandered Park City's Main Street and then took the Guardsmans Pass Road through Deer Valley and Brighton.  Then we met up with Kathleen and had dinner at The Pagoda in Salt Lake.  Yum!

And Lincoln's favorite parts of all the adventures...
Spending time with Aunt Kathleen (10/5/11).  So excited to be pen pals while she's on her mission!

Playing with Grandpa! (10/11/11)  Grandpa especially liked to have Lincoln 'standing' on his knees.  Then Grandpa would encourage him to PUSH! with his legs. . . .

And spending time with Grandma (10/5/11) - grandma's make really good pillows.  Check out Lincoln's expression - is that a smile!?!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for using your vacation time and making the effort to come down and visit us.  We loved taking walks and going exploring and just hanging out.  Can't wait until the next time we get to play!  You're always invited.
