Today was Lincoln's 2 month appointment. First, we strip the baby down to his diaper. And change it if it is dirty. Then Linc gets weighed -
11.1 pounds (33%)! Then the Medical Assistant (Jackie) measures Lincolns height and head circumfrence. For height, Lincoln is lying down on the paper on the examination bed. Jackie marks the paper at the top of Linc's head and while someone holds him to keep him from wiggling too much, she straightens his legs and marks the paper at the bottom of his feet. Then measures the distance between the two marks on the paper
. 23 inches (51%). Measuring the head is easier, just take a flexible measuring tape and wrap it around the head just above the ears and across the forehead -
15.9 inches (56%). The end result, our baby is perfect.
Then we have a visit with the doctor. She listens to the heart and lungs, looks in the eyes and ears and nose, wiggles the legs and arms to check the joints. We chat about Lincoln's sleep and eating (she predicts that Lincoln will sleep longer hours once he reaches 13 pounds) and any concerns that we might have. We wanted to know about a couple small hard bumps on Lincoln's head behind his right ear - lymph nodes that were irritated and hard, but not enlarged and will eventually soften and 'disappear'. Curious about red marks along the back of the neck, right in the bottom of the hairline - more stork bites like the one on Linc's eyelid. They should fade away before Lincoln's first birthday. Dr Knowltons diagnosis: A very healthy baby, keep doing what we are doing!
Then Jackie came back to give Lincoln his 2-month immunizations. The first vaccine is a liquid and given orally with a syringe. That wasn't hard!
Daddy holds Lincoln still while Jackie gives the shots. Today he got three! One in one thigh and two in the other thigh.
Ouch!
Stop poking me!
And I didn't even get cool band-aids, these are boring! (For his 4 month shots, I'm going to buy some "CARS" or "TOY STORY" bandaids and bring them with... way more fun!)
Whew! That's done. Not excited for the 4-month round, but we survived (and don't they look handsome! Love, love, love the overalls look!
Lincoln slept a long time after his appointment, all the way to Grandma and Granddad Price's house. When he woke up, he only wanted to be held. Snuggled up against a shoulder and rocked. Even being held, he would whimper a little. And cry sometimes. And sleep sometimes. I am grateful that Grandma and Uncle Glen (he came by to pick up Kyrie (Brett and Tammy's) who was being babysat at GandGs) were willing to help snuggle my sad baby. By the time dinner was over and we were ready to drive back home, Lincoln had stopped whimpering. He still slept the whole way home and was only a little more fussy than usual. He didn't cry when I took off the bandaids, but I did make him cry when I massaged the poke sites. Overall, Lincoln survived. His temperature is about 1 degree higher, but not a fever. He'll recover pretty quick, but I want to snuggle him!
