I decided to take some pictures of some things we've been in Cordova to share with long-distance family. Maybe you'd like to come visit?
This building is the Bidarki Center - the gym. The main floor has the locker rooms and most of the fitness equipment. The big windows on the 2nd story are the basketball gym level - that's where "Tot Time" goes down on Tu, Th and Saturdays.
The Ilanka Community Health Center. They tell me that Ilanka means "family". I do like the raven logo!
Here's a distance shot of the clinic - this building (35 years ago) was the hospital where James was born. For awhile it was the Community College. And now it houses the Cordova Electric Cooperative and the Ilanka Community Health Center.
This is my desk. All day long I look at this really incredible mural of "old" Cordova (circa 1920). Many of the buildings burned down and were replaced. It's a fun way to keep kids busy while they're waiting for appointments. Ask them to count all the dogs or birds or cars or windows, etc. I don't know when the mural was painted though.
This mural is on the back of the clinic building. I do like the marine rope fence too!
Mt. Eccles Elementary School. This is where Lincoln will (eventually) go to school. It is kiddy-corner from my work.
Most buildings have a fuel tank (for heating fuel) outside their buildings. This is the tank behind the library. Oink!
There are three grocery stores in town. This is the window of Nichol's Front Door Store (there is also Nichol's Back Door Store for bulk foods). I took a picture of their Halloween display because I was so impressed with the 'scary' salmon artwork! Tia Kathleen worked here as a cashier for a few weeks between semesters.
This neat house is along the road to the ski hill. I think the house is interesting, the view is wonderful, but I really like their fence. Huge, old dock posts with huge, old marine rope.
This huge old building says "Public School 1925 Cordova" on the red sign above the door. It is currently closed. After it was the high school, it was apartments for awhile. There is moss growing on the stairs and I think it looks spooky.
Cordova is build on a mountain. These stairs go from one street (near the elementary school) up to another street. I suspect kids use these stairs the most, but sometimes I had four flights of stairs to my lunch time walks.
