Deadhorse - July 12-19, 2017

James is working "off site" for a week. From Wednesday July 12 - Wednesday July 19th. He is filling in for the mechanic who normally works a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off schedule at Deadhorse, but is currently on vacation. The first week was covered by another mechanic and the second week by James. It may not come up again for James to be based away from Anchorage, but it has been an interesting trip!

James is staying in a tiny room for the week and watching over his company's planes that land and take off there.   He's been able to visit the "town" of Deadhorse - where there is a general store and other businesses. You can actually drive to Deadhorse at the end of the Dalton Highway - which is basically a big dirt road that follows the Alaska pipeline.  They also drove out to Kuparuk (about 30 miles away) - which is the other airbase that James occasionally flies to with his job. He didn't get to visit Prudhoe Bay, but he took a picture of a t-shirt.  He has seen caribou, musk oxen and birds.
