Yurt life and Tutka Lake hike - August 21, 2017

The surprise Treehouse (airbnb)

Vacation = exercise: First (on Sunday) we had to haul all our stuff down two flights of stairs from our apartment. It was raining, so we left the truck behind the apartment building in covered parking and James hauled everything from the front steps around to the truck and loaded it.

Then we spent the night in a treehouse, so we hauled stuff up a flight of stairs and down again this morning.

At the harbor, it was low tide, so we hauled all the stuff down a very steep ramp to the boat.

Then we got to our beach. Low tide, remember? So we had to haul everything up the rocky beach to get to the trail. Our yurt was still another hundred yards or so along the muddy trail across a log bridge and lots of tree roots.

Who packed so much stuff? Oh yeah, me.

Blueberry bushes and Tutka Lake. Further along, there is a waterfall and Lincoln was determined to get there. We finally got around the lake and into terrain that looked and sounded promising for being close to the falls.

James said, "I hear people." But it wasn't people. It was a small black bear cub and it climbed a tree and started hollering for it's mom. We went back down the trail a ways and that little bear didn't climb down and it didn't stop crying. So we gave up on the falls. James thought he heard the mama calling to her cub, but for sure we listened to the cub making noise from it's tree for a long time.

Lincoln and Meta were both disappointed about missing the falls. They weren't as impressed with setting and hearing the bear.  Then Meta fell asleep and it started raining again. So our hike back was more of a march through the rain. Lincoln is a trooper!

When Meta woke up, she ended up in James's backpack. All that gear and we didn't bring the kid-pack our the camp chairs
