Phoenix's baby blessing - November 20, 2011

My cousins, Chad and Kelley Price, adopted their son, Phoenix on November 1st.  Today, they had his baby blessing at Uncle Roger and Aunt Lynnette's house.  It was wonderful to see so much family together.  There is always much food and much visiting.  And when James is there, much rough housing.

I didn't get a picture of Phoenix. Oops.  But this is Gage. Alan and Michelle's little boy is the second-cousin just younger than Lincoln.

Ski Season Begins - November 18-19, 2011

One of the benefits of my part-time schedule right now is that I have Friday off.  Which means that James can go skiing on Friday mornings before class.  I think I'm going to change to Mondays off though because it is Clay's week day off.  Then James and Clay can go skiing together.

Snow coverage is still VERY early season .  Definitely take your rock skis!

But look at those clouds!  It is going to snow!

James says, "There is something about being up in the mountains on the eve of a snow storm when it's quiet and all you hear is the wind in the trees ... It's almost a spiritual feeling that still gets me excited!"

And a self-portrait.  At least he remembered his goggles today.  Last week he skied in sunglasses in a snowstorm!

Sooooo jealous! Look at those turns!

And James changed up the facial hair.  How do you like the mustache?  I like it.

Playing with Daddy - November 18, 2011

Lincoln is 10 weeks old today.  I LOVE to watch Lincoln and James interact.  Makes me laugh that James invented a 'skiing' game to play with Linc.  (:28 sec)

My cousin, Sarah, made us a Moby Wrap.  It is basically a long, long, long piece of fabric.  You wrap it around your body in a certain way and then insert your baby.  Then you can carry him around and have your hands free for chores.  There is a special wrap for carrying your brand-new born, a special way for a slightly older baby, then ways to carry older babys on your hip or on your back.  I've seen Sarah carry her kids at family reunions for years.  (Moby website).  I'm very excited to use this - so far, Lincoln will fall asleep in it when he's tired, but he doesn't like facing in very much.

But he LOVES looking out.  (Notice the bib?  Lincoln's a drooler!)  And notice James' "Captain Morgan" or "Poncho Villa" mustache.  So fun!

New Boots / Brighton - November 12, 2011

James needed new boots, his old pair still (after many attempts at adjustment) doesn't fit right. Here he is at the Sports Den getting the new linings molded by Mike.

Here's the "BSU SKI TEAM" ensamble.  The best part?  Lincoln's outfit matches w/blue pants and blue/orange striped onesie.

And the main point of new ski boots?  To go skiing!  Brighton opened on Thurs 11/10, but James had to wait until Saturday 11/12 for his first turns.  Milli Base.

Another view from Milli Base.  Mt Millicent is still closed. Do a little snow dance, we need more!

The parking lot and Majestic / Crest Base

Now we just need to start saving up for my new boots. Maybe next year!

2 month appointment - November 11, 2011

Today was Lincoln's 2 month appointment.  First, we strip the baby down to his diaper.  And change it if it is dirty.  Then Linc gets weighed - 11.1 pounds (33%)!  Then the Medical Assistant (Jackie) measures Lincolns height and head circumfrence.  For height, Lincoln is lying down on the paper on the examination bed.  Jackie marks the paper at the top of Linc's head and while someone holds him to keep him from wiggling too much, she straightens his legs and marks the paper at the bottom of his feet.  Then measures the distance between the two marks on the paper. 23 inches (51%).  Measuring the head is easier, just take a flexible measuring tape and wrap it around the head just above the ears and across the forehead - 15.9 inches (56%).  The end result, our baby is perfect.

Then we have a visit with the doctor. She listens to the heart and lungs, looks in the eyes and ears and nose, wiggles the legs and arms to check the joints.  We chat about Lincoln's sleep and eating (she predicts that Lincoln will sleep longer hours once he reaches 13 pounds) and any concerns that we might have.  We wanted to know about a couple small hard bumps on Lincoln's head behind his right ear - lymph nodes that were irritated and hard, but not enlarged and will eventually soften and 'disappear'.  Curious about red marks along the back of the neck, right in the bottom of the hairline - more stork bites like the one on Linc's eyelid.  They should fade away before Lincoln's first birthday.  Dr Knowltons diagnosis: A very healthy baby, keep doing what we are doing!

Then Jackie came back to give Lincoln his 2-month immunizations.  The first vaccine is a liquid and given orally with a syringe.  That wasn't hard!

Daddy holds Lincoln still while Jackie gives the shots. Today he got three!  One in one thigh and two in the other thigh.

Ouch!

Stop poking me!

And I didn't even get cool band-aids, these are boring! (For his 4 month shots, I'm going to buy some "CARS" or "TOY STORY" bandaids and bring them with... way more fun!)

Whew!  That's done.  Not excited for the 4-month round, but we survived (and don't they look handsome!  Love, love, love the overalls look!

Lincoln slept a long time after his appointment, all the way to Grandma and Granddad Price's house.  When he woke up, he only wanted to be held.  Snuggled up against a shoulder and rocked.  Even being held, he would whimper a little.  And cry sometimes.  And sleep sometimes.  I am grateful that Grandma and Uncle Glen (he came by to pick up Kyrie (Brett and Tammy's) who was being babysat at GandGs) were willing to help snuggle my sad baby.  By the time dinner was over and we were ready to drive back home, Lincoln had stopped whimpering.  He still slept the whole way home and was only a little more fussy than usual.  He didn't cry when I took off the bandaids, but I did make him cry when I massaged the poke sites.  Overall, Lincoln survived.  His temperature is about 1 degree higher, but not a fever.  He'll recover pretty quick, but I want to snuggle him!

Hermana McCalvy - November 9, 2011

We are lucky to be living in Utah because this week, Hermana Kathleen McCalvy stopped in North Salt Lake on her way to Provo and the MTC.  She flew in from Alaska early on Sunday morning. And came with us for Lincoln's first full block of church.  Here is Linc and James doing the 'daddy walk'.

And Brian came down Sunday evening (Tiffany stayed beind to work) to spend a few days with his missionary sister.  Every morning (while I worked) they'd go exploring or last-minute shopping.  Then James would go to class and when he got home.. much video game playing would commence.

And on Wednesday... Hermana McCalvy began her mission.  The 'drop-off' is truly a drop off.  Kind of like going to the airport, you drive slowly along to your designated unload spot.  Then missionaries help you with your luggage (that's better than the airport!).  Then it is time for a quick picture and then good bye!  Another car needs to unload another missionary.

Good luck in the MTC learning Spanish.  Kathleen will be there until early January.  Then she'll be off to Nashville, TN to teach.  Luckily, she's got access to e-mail currently on p-day.  So I send lots of pictures of Lincoln.  Hopefully there will be an easy way to send pictures in the mission field as well.  Yay for Hermana McCalvy!  Love you!
