9 month appointment - June 20, 2012

Lincoln is 17.5 pounds, 28.5 inches.  5% for his weight and 57% for his height.  Dr.K wanted to check if Linc is anemic, so he did get a finger prick and didn't cry at all.  Turns out Linc is a little bit anemic, so we've started iron supplements.  It's not awful, a tiny swallow of mineral-tasting liquid. I think he's teething (for the last month), but he still has only the one tooth.  Sometimes I think I see a ridge of a 2nd one on the bottom next to his tooth, but when I try to take a closer look I can't find it.

This appointment was really quick, no shots!  Before his exam, Dr.K was asking me about some different milestones, like if he crawls.  I said no, but at that moment, Linc was bum-scooting across the floor.  She says that counts.  Then she started to ask something and said, "Nevermind, I just saw him pick up a puff between his finger and thumb and eat it."  And she asked if Lincoln was saying words.  I said no, but Linc said, "Maaaa mum MUmm Mamamamum" like he does.  And she said, I know that's not  a "word" exactly, but it counts! And she asked about waving and I told her that Lincoln does wave.  Then, within a minute or so, Lincoln started waving and clapping.  He is a happy boy.  So even though he is lighter than most kids his age, Lincoln is healthy and meeting all his developmental milestones.

We are still practicing with solids.  Lincoln is doing better with finger foods.  He's more likely to eat something if he can pick it up with his fingers than if we try to use a spoon.  I gave him 6 small bites of banana, Lincoln ate one bite, squashed three bites into mushy banana blobs and dropped them on the floor and into his lap.  Then he didn't touch the last two bites. Oh well, we're just practicing!

Father's Day - June 17, 2012

On Father's Day we went exploring with Jed and his girls (Maria was in a Cross Fit Instructor Class and Tucker stayed in Idaho to work with Kurt at the Fireworks Stand) and the Dotys.  We went up Big Cottonwood Canyon and had lunch at Brighton.  Then we walked around Silver Lake. Then we drove over Guardsman's Pass into Park City and finally stopped at the Outlet Malls for some window shopping.  A busy day!

 Lets go on an adventure!

On the way up the canyon, we saw a moose! James called him a "Chuckle Head" because he's a young moose getting his first antlers.

Clay, James, Lincoln and Jed - we sure enjoyed celebrating your special day together!

Girls on the chairlift - Hallie, Aspen, Hannah, Zoe, Stella and Emma

Lincoln was happy to examine the rocks at Brighton.

This one is a BIG rock!

Took a nap in the backpack on the way around Silver Lake.

Sat in a "car" at the outlet malls! Driving the car

And had his first experience in a Toddler Swing at the Outlet Mall's playground. (Video)  Linc and James also went on the slide, but I didn't get a video of that.

Happy Father's Day!

Park City - June 16, 2012

Maria had a Cross Fit Instructor Class and Test in Park City this weekend (She passed!).  So Jed and the girls came with for an adventure. Tucker stayed behind to work at the Fireworks Stand.  Maria spent all day in class and I met up with the rest of the Simpsons at the Park City Ski Resort Summer Activities.

First, we rode the carousel (I never did get the timing right, so the pictures are not great. Sorry.).  Hannah took Lincoln on his first Merry-Go-Round!

Stella and Hallie

Zoe on the zebra

In the same area as the carousel there was an airplane ride. (Zoe)

And a Space Train. (Zoe)

In another area, there was a rock climbing wall (Stella)

And an inflatable slide that you had to climb up through webbing to the top (Zoe)

And then you could slide down (Zoe)

For the Alpine Slide, you had to ride the chairlift with your sleds (Stella, Zoe, Jed, Hallie and Hannah)

There was also a "roller coaster" that Jed and the older girls did a few times. I didn't get a picture because Zoe and Lincoln and I were riding the carousel or Zoe was climbing up to the inflatable slide.

We played some miniature golf too!  It was speed golf.  There was no waiting or taking turns.  The girls just picked out which obstacles they wanted to do and headed out.

Lincoln had a good time.  He got to go on the Merry-Go-Round twice and we hiked up the ski run a little way to get in a good position for Alpine Slide pictures.  He also managed to scrounge a couple of fruit snacks off of a red picnic table.  I only noticed because he was starting to have pink drool.  Linc wasn't sure what to do about all the extra attention from his cousins.  Once, Lincoln was sitting on the ground and we were watching Stella on the trampoline.  Hallie sat down in front of Linc and tried to interact with him.  He just pivoted on his little bum and turned away.  She followed. He turned more. She followed.  She tried to pick him up, he fussed. She let him go.  Then took his hands and helped him stand up and "walk" and he liked that!

Hannah and Lincoln

Zoe and Lincoln were buddies all day.  She would lean in and say, "Hi Linky!"

Finally, we picked Maria up from class and met up with the Dotys and went swimming in Midway.  James' friend from school lives in Midway and has a neighborhood pool that they generously let me invite my out-of-town family to use.  Hannah, Emma and Hallie looking through an inflatable tube.

While I was hanging out in Park City with Jed and his girls... James was using his buddy's garage in Midway replacing all four shocks on The Outlaw. The original shock
Comparison: the new and the old
Finished (it took all day, but it is done!)!!

Busy, busy fun day!

A video James took - June 7, 2012

This is Lincoln doing a bum-scoot pivot while playing with a cord of some kind.  James decided to take some of the mystery out of power cords by letting Linc play with one - we have no idea what it goes to anymore, so it is fair game for the baby.

June 4, 2012 - Walking Practice (sorry for the sideways video - I always forget that I don't know how to turn the videos.)

June 4, 2012 - More walking practice - the first time we used this little 'walker' I was worried that Lincoln's hands would get ahead of his feet and he would fall on his nose.  Now he seems to have the toy under control - except for the steering part.

June 4, 2012 - Walking Lincoln's favorite way - with Dad's hands for balance (and James is only letting Lincoln use one hand). Lincoln is SO excited to be motoring around!

Lincoln is getting pretty mobile using his bum-scoot.  It is pretty cute to seem him spin and change directions on his bum.  He's not very fast, so he doesn't escape from view yet.  I put Linc on his hands and knees and he managed to work his way onto his bum so that he could scoot.

We keep trying to give Lincoln practice at crawling, but Linc is determined to walk.  He walks along the furniture and walks holding our hands (he's much more confident when holding onto our hands) and walks using the rolling toy walker (did you see how Linc was reaching for James' hand while using the walker in the video?). Linc can't stand up by himself yet. But when he's holding onto our hands, Lincoln can lean down and pick things off the floor and stand back up again.  So fun to watch his motor skills develop.

He's getting so smart too.  Definitely starting to voice an opinion.  When we're 'walking' and I steer Lincoln in a direction he doesn't want to go, he "tells" me about it (squawk!) and turns his whole body in the direction he wants to go.

Want to come play with us?

Willow Lake - June 3, 2012

Lincoln DID NOT sleep at all during church today.  He was busy, busy, busy.  He wasn't loud or cranky or fussy; he just wanted to explore.  He was charming to our neighbors and I don't think we disturbed too many people.  But by the time church was over, Lincoln had been awake for four-plus hours and had missed at least one usual nap.  So we went for a Sunday drive. We took I-80 to Park City, wandered down Main Street and up Guardsman's Pass to Brighton. When Lincoln woke up, we went for a hike in Big Cottonwood Canyon to Willow Lake.

James and Lincoln had attempted Willow Lake last month.  But it was cool and Lincoln got cranky before they reached the lake.  So James stopped short and took Fussy-Pants back to the car where they could warm up and have a bottle.

No Fussy-Pants today.  He was well rested and loved looking around from his perch on James' back. We saw ground squirrels and ducks and even an illegal dog. (Illegal only because Big Cottonwood Canyon is a watershed area for Salt Lake and dogs are prohibited.  A nice group of older hikers with foreign accents had a beautiful german shepard with them.)

Daddy-Powered Transportation

Willow Lake (there are a LOT of willows around the lake.  There was only a view of the lake from one side because the willows are so thick around most of the lake.)

Is the water cold, Lincoln?

James and Lincoln - what can they be discussing?

I love Sundays.
