Early in the float are a couple of small waterfalls from another stream entering Alaganik. James, Jessi and Joe.
Jana and Kathleen in the "Evil Kneevil" canoe. They kept trying to do things like float under tree trunks on the river's edge or make an obstacle course out of old bridge pilings.
Definitely not whitewater canoeing! The biggest hazard is the sandbars when the river gets really shallow. And if you have an overloaded canoe that rides pretty low in the water - like a green canoe with two paddlers and a princess... Well, sometimes the paddlers had to get out and pull the boat off the sand.
A beautiful float with Merganzer ducks, sandpipers and even bear tracks on the sandbar where we stopped for lunch (that's James' boot).
Proof that (occasionally) the Princess also paddled...
What happens when a paddler gets 'dead bum'...
Jessi and Joe...
A couple of beautiful scenery pictures that happen to have a bright orange canoe in them. It was overcast and cloudy over by the mountains, but sunny enough on the river that sunscreen was required.
No one fell out. No one even got wet. Only James and Joe had to get into the water to get our canoe 'unstuck' a couple of times. We only had to paddle because the current is very mellow and the wind was blowing up-river. No fish were harmed on this adventure (because they weren't running up river yet). I could get used to this kind of river trip!
