Net Mending - June 22, 2011

Walking down to the harbor with the plastic bucket full of supplies, extra twine, net needles, scissors and a sharp knife, water bottle, lunch, rain gear, etc.  The bucket also doubles as a chair if he gets to sit down at all.

The net seems so fragile to be used to catch so many fish!

The whole net and check out that view!  This was a soggy day at the office.

New rain gear - after that soggy day on the docks, we went shopping for new rain gear.  James' decade-plus old gear didn't keep him dry.  This new stuff will work!

Sunny day mending - jeans and a t-shirt and a $10 bottle of sunscreen.

Eagle spotting is a perk of working outdoors in Alaska.

I'm proud of James for learning a new skill, marketing his availability, networking with other net menders and fishermen to build up jobs, keeping track of jobs and billing his customers, for working in the rain and the wind and sun.  Plus, he's cute!
